NEW YORK — iCapital, the global fintech platform driving the world’s alternative investment marketplace for the wealth management industry, today announces it has been included in the annual Forbes Fintech 50 list. This marks the seventh year in a row iCapital has been recognized by Forbes as a top innovator among financial technology firms.
The Forbes Fintech 50 list highlights firms that have continued to innovate, grow and adapt across personal finance, investing, insurance, payments, real estate, banking, blockchain and crypto, consumer lending, and enterprise. iCapital is featured as one of six firms driving the Future of Investing category, and it is the only company to be recognized in the investing space for seven years running.
To select the 50 ranked companies, the Forbes team of reporters and editors evaluated hundreds of companies, analyzing everything from product originality and customer and revenue growth to leadership team diversity. Forbes also interviewed industry insiders. To be considered, companies must be based or have substantial operations in the U.S., and the judges also look for growth outpacing the competitive set over the last year.
The Forbes editorial team highlighted iCapital’s growth, noting that it “launched a marketplace that makes it easier for giants like Blackstone and Carlyle to offer their funds to advisors, and announced a partnership with Morningstar, giving 170,000 users access to iCapital’s marketplace and other features.”
“No wonder assets invested through iCapital’s platform grew 18% last year to $176 billion across more than 1,400 funds,” continued Forbes.
“iCapital continues to develop innovative technology solutions, enhanced tools and the leading industry operating system for investing in the private markets,” said Lawrence Calcano, Chairman and CEO of iCapital. “It’s an honor to receive this recognition for the seventh year running, and I thank the entire iCapital team for its commitment to our mission of powering the world’s alternative investment marketplace.”
Forbes notes that volatility has become the status quo for startups and, according to CB Insights, funding for fintech startups worldwide fell from $141 billion in 2021 to $39 billion in 2023, just two years later. But despite headwinds, the editorial team stated that competition remained strong.
iCapital’s technology and services continue to stand out in the industry. In 2023, iCapital launched both iCapital Architect and iCapital Marketplace, further underscoring its commitment to the wealth management industry. Architect is a first-of-its-kind portfolio analytics tool that enables wealth managers to build, analyze, and compare portfolios with traditional assets, alternatives, and structured investments. iCapital Marketplace is the next generation of the iCapital alternative investing platform, expanding a curated menu of fund offerings to one of the world’s largest selections of alternative investment opportunities – creating a true one-stop shop for wealth managers and their clients worldwide.
In addition to launching new offerings and organic growth, iCapital expanded the investment mandate of the iCapital KKR Private Markets Fund to include sourcing direct investments from Vista Equity Partners and Warburg Pincus, establishing the iDirect Private Markets Fund, an innovative product for accredited investors as the only registered fund with Direct Access Arrangements with named private equity managers.
